In recent years, Argentina has witnessed a significant and sustained development in its ICT segment. Currently, ICT is considered as one of the most competitive industries in Argentina with high levels of dynamism, and it is consequently regarded by the Argentinian government as a pillar of strategic importance for the development of the country as a whole. It is expected that Argentinian enterprises will make increased investments in ICT in the coming two years to improve their operational efficiency and process optimization.

Hardware expenditure is dominated by expenditure on clients, networking and communications equipment, and mainframes. Of the various hardware categories, client computing is attracting the highest budget allocation of 18%, driven by the rising demand for various types of computing devices such as laptops, tablets, and smart phones. Expenditure on networks is driven by the expansion plans of Argentinian enterprises, in addition to spending on supplementary networking equipment required to support the proliferation of client devices.

The rising need of Argentinian enterprises to improve their data processing capabilities has necessitated an increase in the demand for mainframes. Enterprises are allocating 16% of their average hardware budget to mainframes. On the other hand, rising incidences of malware and cyber-attacks are prompting Argentinian enterprises to allocate 12% of their average hardware budget to security.
