Report highlights:

Commercial beverage recorded a high single growth in Q1-14, thanks to soft drinks and dairy. Under the Chinese government’s ‘steady economy growth’ policy, it is believed that there is immense untapped potential in China’s beverage market.

Soft drinks categories registered healthy double digit growth in Q1-14, with main contribution from packaged water and iced/rtd tea. The two categories enjoyed satisfactory growth primarily thanks to the leading players such as Tingyi (Kangshifu). China dairy continued the upward trend in the first quarter of 2014 together with steady growth in consumer demands and intensive marketing by dairy producers as raw milk undersupply eased to some extent.

Driven by the festive consumption during Chinese New Year, when people purchased juice as gifts or consume it during family gathering, juice grew by over 15%, orange remained the key flavor but other flavors such as peach, pear and grape also grew. It is expected that juice may perform better than in 2013 and achieve slightly higher growth of about 16% primarily driven by the increase in consumers' disposable income and the demand for healthy drinks
