For instance, Micron Technology Inc., which was ranked fourth in the market, acquired Elpida Inc., which was ranked third, in July 2013. With this acquisition, Micron is expected to strengthen its foothold in the market. Thus, the increasing number of mergers and acquisitions is expected to help in the market growth.”

According to the report, the growth of the Global DRAM market is driven by several factors, one such key driver being the increasing adoption of DRAMs in smartphones. After computers, smartphones are the major application device for DRAMs, which are also contributing to the development of smartphones with high memory capacities.

Further, the report states that one of the major challenges is the declining ASP of DRAMs, which has an adverse effect on the profitability of the market vendors, decelerating the market growth.
