The key player Identifies the top 100 Companies Developing Automotive ADAS
Vehicle safety is a vital strategy to address determined long-term objectives as part of a combined safe system approach. One such safety measures adopted by the automotive manufacturers is known as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). It is defined as vehicle-based intelligent safety systems, which could drastically improve road safety in terms of crash evasion, crash severity mitigation and protection and post-crash phases. ADAS are features and systems that provide a driver with vital information, automate repetitive or difficult tasks with the motive of achieving an overall increase in the car safety for everyone on the road. ADAS comprises a wide range of safety features including adaptive cruise control, adaptive light control, automatic braking, automatic parking, blind spot detection, collision avoidance system, driver drowsiness detection, GPS navigation, hill descent control, intelligent speed adaptation, lane departure warning systems, night vision, tire pressure monitoring and others. It is forecasted that over 40% of all vehicles on the road will feature ADAS by 2020.

The evaluation of ADAS is a new science and their road safety performance is of major concern to road safety managers. Outcomes can be calculated in terms of deaths and serious injuries or any movement, which is linked to these e.g., the extent of seat belt use. ADAS helps to cut down costs and improves road safety by reducing the number of accidents. ADAS essentially provides drivers with vital information about their environments as well as automating some tasks to escalate safety. Various manufacturers are investing in this area to help distinguish their vehicles from others in the automotive market. The identical technologies that empower today’s ADAS will also be used in the future to develop fully autonomous vehicles. Growing level of technological innovation and rising initiatives towards vehicle automation and self-driving cars has elevated the demand for driver safety and assistance systems over the past decade. For instance, the European Union has directed the automotive manufacturers to fit ADAS systems such as autonomous emergency braking systems (AEB) and lane departure warning systems (LDW) in all heavy commercial vehicles weighing over 7,000 Kilograms.

The report analyst commented "The growth of the advanced driver assistance system is largely dependent on the levels of penetration, awareness, associated costs and technological know how. Car manufacturers have different views on how the ADAS technology would actually function. A few are relying on the sensors and cameras of the vehicle, as it provides real time data for the car to position itself in the traffic. Other manufacturers use high resolution maps for navigation. And some manufacturers are seeing the lane departure warning systems, which alerts driver to take corrective action when they are likely to hit another car. However, if all the ADAS technologies would be combined and offered in a car, the level of vehicle safety would significantly increase."

Leading companies featured in the report who are developing advanced driver assistance systems include Aisin Seiki Co., Ltd., Audi AG, Autoliv Inc., BMW AG, Robert Bosch GmbH, Chery, Clarion, Continental AG, Daimler AG, Delphi Automotive, Denso Corporation, Gentex Corporation, Harman International, Hella GmbH & Co. KGaA, Hyundai Mobis, Mobileye, TRW Automotive and many others.
